Since reading in the local rag that TATA has announced that it is to stop funding for the Steel Gala (formely the App-Frod Gala) which has been running for the last 80 years, my thoughts drifted back in time to the many happy hours I had spent there as a youngster in Scunthorpe and the time I spent at the “Family Week-End” in the early 70′s.
I think we should start looking again at bringing back some form of Family Week-End so we can celebrate being part of, and what is good about Scunthorpe. How we do this I do not know but I’m sure we have people in Scunthorpe who could come up with some good ideas and ways of financing it. We have what we call Special Expenses charged to Scunthorpe council tax payers and we might be able to use some of this money to finance a Family Week-End. Any thoughts would be welcome.
